My Experience

About me – I am a Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist Certified by the American Association of Bioanalysts and a Medical Laboratory Technician Certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. In addition, I have worked as an Administrative Assistant on both academic and medical levels. I started and facilitated the first brain and spinal tumor support group in Northeast Florida in 2007. I recently retired after 14 years of being Nationally Certified & Licensed as a Therapeutic Massage & Body-work Practitioner. Combined, I have over 20 years of medical field experience.

With a background in Administrative Assisting, Alternative Medicine and Medical Laboratory Technology, I have enjoyed expanding my knowledge and adding to my skill sets. My approach with each client/individual is with the same professionalism as I would expect from any healthcare employee or practitioner. My goal is to nourish healthy lifestyles!

Starting in 2003, I began having multiple recurrent infections including: minor upper respiratory infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, endometritis (inflammation of the endometrial lining of the uterus-Ouch!), yeast infections, an irregular pap smear, a fibrous lump found in my left breast, ongoing anxiety and general fatigue. And to top that off, add on the instant depression and massive weight gain that I experienced after taking the “popular” birth control shots in 2010.

I did manage to have a healthy baby girl at the end of 2012. During the pregnancy I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I also had major complications the last two months of that pregnancy. After an emergency C-section it took eight weeks to recover. The diabetes did not go away after the baby was born, which extended my recovery time and caused other medical issues. I was horribly overweight, unhealthy, lethargic and after most meals I would feel the need to pass out.

My gynecologist made me wait three months after initially finding a lump at my post pregnancy check-up. Three months to sit, wait, worry and pray. Why was he making me wait? Shouldn’t I have been getting imaging and finding out “early” if it was cancer? At the recheck in June 2013 he sent me out, at age 35, to get a mammogram. From my knowledge, smashing your breast in a vice is about as fun. No, I passed and decided to look for other options.

As if upper respiratory issues and yeast infections aren’t a carnival of fun, the possibility of having breast cancer will make  you

want to scream! After facilitating a support group for cancer patients and working with them at a prestigious college hospital, I knew what would happen next.

No one from General Practice, Cardiology or Internal Medicine could tell me why I was having so many health problems. I had hit rock bottom by this point. I felt like if I could hold my breathe long enough I would just pass away quietly. Oh yes, I was unhappy, over-weight, exhausted and at a total loss for which way to turn. I was sick of being tired and tired of being sick!

I refused, and still do, to be a number or give my money to ‘Big Cancer Business”. Too many people grow wealthy while so many people are dying, check out the statistics here. So instead, I researched natural ways to cure diseases. I found that numerous people were healing themselves of cancer and diseases at home with nutrition!

In a nutshell, I chose an alternative, non-toxic treatment for cancer and other chronic degenerative diseases. The basics: detoxify your body and overwhelm it with healthy nourishment to rid the body of nutritional deficiencies. Similar to a vegan nutritional lifestyle times ten! No cutting, no radiation, no chemotherapy, no side-effects!

Having worked in the healthcare atmosphere for over 20 years, I have learned many things. First, not all healthcare professionals are trained in nutrition. Second, not all healthcare professionals understand the value of treating the body as a whole. Third, not all healthcare professionals want to know how people heal themselves naturally.

I have witnessed this first-hand. It is sad to know that our healthcare system in America is geared more toward treating symptoms instead of the prevention of disease. It is upsetting to think that money could be the motivation behind that choice. Being a healthcare professional myself, I know there are options. I read the statistics and the medical journals. I have met patients with cancer and their spouses and I have been told not to share “alternative” healing options with those patients. I’ve walked away knowing that my goal in life is to motivate others to Nourish. Heal. and Live!

Heal Thru Food

In order to bring healthy back and to rid my body of possible breast cancer I invoked the “buddy system”. My husband, being the most patient and understanding man I have ever known, agreed to walk this journey alongside me. We began an initial eighteen month journey to “Heal Thru Food” at home on June 20, 2013. Read more about my journey here.

Currently, I am healthier than I was the last ten years.  I have the energy and stamina to exercise regularly now! Under the supervision of a healthcare provider, I am maintaining Type II Diabetes without medication!

I started a personal blog to document my healing journey in 2013. It was my hope that other people in similar situations, like mine, would find the information inspirational. Since beginning my journey I have met others in need of the same information that took me two years to research and implement.

When I was searching for answers on how to heal myself, I became overwhelmed with the information that was out there waiting. So many programs, books and diets to choose from. Not to forget, the oppressing experience of learning about the state of our healthcare and industrialized food systems in America.

I needed guidance and straight forward answers. I needed details about how to get my family started on a healthier path.  It is not an easy task, but I am succeeding!

Along the way I have been questioned about my choices and at times ridiculed. It is beyond me why anyone would make fun of another person doing what they feel is genuinely best for their own health. I take that as a challenge to share wellness.

My goal

That is how Nourish. Heal. Live! was born. Without the guidance and wisdom of others, how would we progress as a society? My intentions now are to reach further, inspire and motivate more people to become physically active and to heal through food, so that they may take control of their own health!

My purpose with Nourish. Heal. Live! is to pull all of the information together, the facts, the statistics and the resources that one would need in order to begin to transition to a healthier lifestyle. If you have the facts in front of you, you will be better prepared to make an informed decision on whether or not to even begin a healing journey.

I will provide education about our current food and health systems. And also share information on the importance of eating clean, organic foods and being physically active. I offer a weekly advice column, podcasts, freebies and a wealth of knowledge from reputable sources.  My promise,  is to provide you with the tools for you to Nourish. Heal. Live!
